Queensland Tuckshop of the Year Awards 2018

Calling all outstanding tuckshops!!

It’s Tuckshop of the Year time again. That’s the time when we want to pay homage to Queensland’s most successful tuckshops. This year the theme is Business Success. Even though many school tuckshops are finding it a bit tough, others continue to excel. We want to know what you are doing to make your tuckshop work for your community.

This year all QAST members are eligible to nominate for the awards, regardless of whether or not you have had a recent Menu Health Check. We are opening up the awards to find all those innovative, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial convenors, volunteers, and parents who go above and beyond, try new things and generally roll up their sleeves and make things work.

What do you have to do?
All the forms are online this year, one for each category. There are four main categories plus Recipe of the Year and many speciality awards so its worth having a go! Click on the photo below to watch Bulimba State School talk about what winning Tuckshop of the Year 2017 has meant to their school.

Important Dates

  • Friday 21st September 2018 – Recipe of the Year Entries close
  • Thursday 11th October 2018 – Tuckshop, Convenor, Volunteer and Team of the Year Entries close
  • Monday 15th October 2018 – Judging
  • Friday 19th October 2018 – Tickets on sale for the Gala Awards
  • Friday 2nd November 2018 – Gala Awards Ceremony – Pineapple Hotel, Kangaroo Point Brisbane
  • Saturday 3rd November 2018 – Morning After Networking Brunch

Categories

To make it easier for you, the nominations are all on line this year. The questions are below each category, so that you can write something before you go in to complete the form. Once you commence the on line form you will need to submit it. All categories have separate nomination forms, so you can apply for one or all categories. Remember the theme is Business Success! So tell us how successful you are!

Tuckshop of the Year 2018

Question 1. Tell us the process that the tuckshop management and staff go through each year to plan together for future growth or sustained income for your business and / or meeting community needs.

Question 2. What day to day processes are in place to determine that financial goals are being measured and how they are adjusted to ensure you are on track? For example what financial indicators do you regularly monitor?

Question 3. Briefly explain the communication plan you have used to engage with your community about your business goals. What methods have you used to market your business?

Convenor of the Year 2018

Question 1. A great business leader can encourage teamwork in several ways. How does your convenor get staff (paid and volunteer) to work together to achieve the best results?

Question 2.  Being customer focused is essential when running a successful business, how does your convenor achieve this?

Question 3. Tell us what techniques your convenor uses to maximise profit not just sales?

Volunteer of the Year 2018

Question 1. How has this volunteer shown excellent business skills, such as great customer service or being an ideas person, for example?

Question 2. Share a story about your volunteer that epitomises their contribution to your school’s tuckshop. What makes them special enough for you to nominate them for this award.

Team of the Year 2018

Question 1. For a business to be sustainable, staff must be a great team that work well together in and out of the kitchen. How have your team continued to grow? Can they cover for each other if required?

Question 2. How has your tuckshop team’s great customer service supported your business goals?

Question 3. Tell us about the other unique characteristics or skills that your team has that make your school want to nominate them for this award.

Recipe of the Year 2018

Recipe of the Year nominations are now open! Simply email a copy of your recipe and a photo to admin@qast.org.au or create the recipe in eMenu and select ‘submit for rating’.
Nominations for Recipe of the Year will close at the end of Term 3 (Friday 21st of September).
