Convenor Course

Are you a new convenor who feels like they’ve been thrown in the deep end? Or an established convenor who’s wondering if your tuckshop can be made more efficient? The convenor course is here to help!

QAST has developed this convenor course to give you the skills and confidence to run a successful tuckshop, and where to access support when you need it. The course will introduce you to a range of information, tools and templates that can be personalised to your tuckshop, to help everything run smoothly. This includes items like daily schedules, stocktake templates, pricing templates and more! There will also be group discussion on a range of scenarios from what to do if students arrive without lunch, to negotiating with suppliers, to reporting back to employers effectively.

What will be covered?

There are three key sections to this course;

  • Designing your menu
  • Running an organised kitchen
  • Working with your school community

Of course, we can’t cover everything in one day but from our years of experience, we’ve determined the key topics to help you. The course will be especially useful for new convenors, but even established staff will pick up new ideas. You’ll also get the opportunity to share ideas and network with other convenors attending this course.

Is there any assessment?

There is no assessment to complete with this course, so that we can maximise time for learning and group discussion.

You will be encouraged to develop a personalised action plan for your tuckshop as we work through the days topics. QAST staff are always happy to provide ongoing support for members in implementing these actions.

How is the course delivered?

Face to Face

The course is delivered either at the QAST training room in Coorparoo, or from a school in your local area. The course runs from 9:00am until 4:30pm.

Virtual classroom (online)

The course will be delivered via a Zoom conference session with a maximum of 8 students in your class, to ensure sufficient support for each student from your trainer. Adequate breaks will be provided throughout the course delivery. To participate, students will need to have access to a computer with a webcam. If you do not have a personal computer with this functionality, you like to ask if there is a computer available at your school. You will be expected to participate fully in the class, so please ensure you have a private space to work from without interruption.

Students will be mailed or emailed the participant workbook prior to the course. The trainer will run a brief orientation to Zoom at the start of the first session, but to maximise training time, participants will be asked to view some brief Zoom tutorials prior to the course.

Please view our virtual training demonstration video for an idea of how the course will work.
