Healthy Menu Planning Course (FREE)

Are you a convenor or P&C Executive who wants to develop a healthy menu that meets the needs of your school community? Keen to understand the role the tuckshop can play in supporting health outcomes for children?

QAST, in partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland, has developed this Healthy Menu Planning Course to give you the skills and confidence to create a tuckshop menu that is healthy, achievable, affordable and profitable.

What will be covered?

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the tuckshop in supporting health outcomes for children.
  • Understand the menu as a key driver in tuckshop operations.
  • Plan a tuckshop menu that:
    • Meets policy obligations;
    • Caters appropriately to special dietary requirements and cultural needs of the school community;
    • Is responsive to the labour, equipment, skills and facilities available; and
    • Is affordable but profitable, achievable and sustainable over time.

Is there any assessment?

The course is broken down into 6 modules, which all include a short, multiple-choice quiz.

Modules:

  1. Why are healthy menus important?
  2. Menu as a key driver of tuckshop operations
  3. The child as the customer
  4. Principles of Menu Planning (Part 1)
  5. Principles of Menu Planning (Part 2)
  6. Marketing and Sales.

How is the course delivered?

The course can be completed online at your own pace, at any time. The course can be completed in approximately 1.5 hours.
