A morning of giving back

The QAST team recently spent a morning out of the office and volunteered their time in the FareShare kitchen in Brisbane.

This was an opportunity to make a real social impact, while enhancing our team culture and making a tangible difference.

FareShare is a charity which has been cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough since 2001. They believe that every Australian deserves a nutritious meal, regardless of their circumstances or location.

FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need.

Each year FareShare transforms rescued, donated and homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact.

Their healthy meals are given away free to frontline charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges, First Nations organisations and groups providing disaster relief.

The need for meal relief has never been higher with the soaring cost of living, frequent natural disasters and the lingering effects of the pandemic hurting millions of Australians.

QAST team members, Keryn, Karen and Chrissy were joined by tuckshop suppliers, Michelle from Bidfood and Jaylan from School24 for a fulfilling morning of helping out in the kitchen.

Together, the team were able to serve 498 meals in the kitchen and pack 1,000 meals in their warehouse. Additionally, a generous donation will enable FareShare to provide an additional 471 meals.

These efforts contributed to a total of 1,969 meals for those in need.

A massive thank you to Michelle and Jaylan for joining us for what was a thought-provoking, insightful, rewarding and fun morning.
