How to serve coated chicken products in tuckshops

Do you serve coated chicken products in your tuckshop?

Coated chicken products include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Chicken fillets
  • Chicken patties
  • Chicken strips/fingers or goujons
  • Chicken burgers
  • Chicken nuggets

On their own, chicken nuggets are rated RED against the Smart Choices guidelines. This is because commercially made, coated chicken products have a poor nutritional profile.

However, it is possible to achieve an AMBER rating if you serve chicken nuggets (that meet the criteria) as part of a meal.

This useful Guide to How to Serve Chicken Nuggets in Tuckshops will help you work out:

  • How to determine if your coated chicken product is rated RED or AMBER
  • The recommended serving sizes
  • Ideas on how to serve them as part of a meal.
